Shockwave Therapy
How it works
This technology uses high power ultrasound waves targeted at a specific area to stimulate a reduction in pain. It is mostly used for tendon problems, particularly the Achilles, patella (knee), elbow and also used to treat the plantar fascia in the foot. It helps improve pain in the area to keep you moving and can help you to remain active. Your doctor will advise you if they think it is appropriate.
You will be assessed by your Doctor to see if this treatment is suitable for your injury and a usual course is 4-6 treatments to help manage your pain. You will frequently undertake a course of Shockwave therapy (ESWT) alongside a course of prescribed exercises and activity modification to achieve the best results.
